About the Artist
My latest paintings are oils on linen. I exercise patience by carefully building multiple layers of mostly transparent oils. I do not use a sketch or a drawing but instead, use a rough brush and rugs to determine the shapes and composition of the painting. These spontaneous gestures are unpredictable and reflective of my emotional intent and often take me onto an unexpected journey. it helps me to discover new possibilities and challenges as well. For me, the painting process reflects a constant struggle between constraint and freedom, control and intuition.
In my paintings, I explore the female and her relationship to nature, to her surroundings, the seasons, earth. My latest series of Queens are contemplative female portraits that capture emotional delicacy and symbolism that hopefully remain open to the viewer for interpretation.
My work reflects my own unique poetic and deeply lyrical vision of the world that synthesizes European and American cultures. Lives and works in Encinitas, CA.
