About the Artist
My work is made using a large format camera which demands a more contemplative approach. This slow process - for nothing about using a view camera is fast - results in an image that a more personal interpretation. I concentrate on learning the subject and what light is best if I have access to it in different seasons, and spend most of my time walking a place or learning about its light without a camera, returning again and again if I need to , especially if season or the trajectory of the sun changes the experience.
In the field, the making of the negative is a precise and measured transaction where there is only one right answer. In the darkroom, the interpretation of that negative has many right answers and I must choose the one that compassionately represents what it was like to stand there, that day, in that light.
