About the Artist
Irthly Jewelled Adornments is a culmination of 25 years of jewelry experience, my education in Asian and European philosophy, and my vision of the future of jewelry art design. I want my brand to showcase upscale, cutting-edge jewelry. It must demonstrate luxury, an appreciation of vital elements of the environment, and meaningful ethical statements and reminders we can treasure.
I feel strongly that sustainability will be achieved when society's ethics improve. As such, I focus on creating meaningful and ethical statements and reminders with the philosophical and compassionate intent of improving society's ethical footprint first.
For the past 10 years, I have been working with rainforest palm tree seeds as the elements in focus for my first two collections. The inspiration comes from the pregnancy of my wife and my appreciation of the birth and origins of all things. The fact that I could provide a sustainable and ethical alternative to the conflict-ridden animal ivory was an additional motivating factor to introduce the element to the jewelry industry, with very positive critical reviews.
As I developed the collection, it was important to make sure that the palm tree seeds were not just an accent secured by the conventional jewelry protocol which only provided minimal sustainability. The challenge then was to make the seeds the body of the jewelry and not the accent. An amalgamation of old and new technology allowed me to bring out the wonderful power of this seed. What keeps me excited is that the jewelry, as an organic thing, evolves along with you. No other jewelry can be so intimately connected to the owner.
As Irthly evolves, I will continue to uphold our primary values of creating ethical and meaningful designs that will coexist with the calling of our times.
My present collection is following suit as it highlights how interconnectivity, and our awareness to it, should be as precious as anything we treasure. The symbolic element in focus is the fragile eco-system of the bee. As the butterfly effect teaches us, little changes in some states can influence other states in much greater scale. The bee's delicate eco-system is one real example. As the bee population thins, there is real potential for disastrous effects to our way of consuming our nutrients.
My BeeEffect™ Collection will be an elegant way to treasure our awareness of how intimately connected we all are. My hope is that the more we treasure and share our awareness of our codependent existence, the more our ethical practices improve.
