I use laminations of contrasting hardwoods to create artistic wavy patterns in one-of-a-kind wall art as well as functional pieces such as game boards, tables, and kitchenware. Each design highlights the unique character of flat grain, edge grain, or end grain surfaces.
My connection to wood began in the pine forests of southern New Mexico, where summers in a logging camp shaped my respect for the material. Early experiments with tree trunk sections and geometric patterns sparked my interest in design. At UC Davis, I studied design and began combining domestic and exotic hardwoods into functional works, later expanding into sculptural wall art.
Durability and artistry are central to my process. Using dovetail or tongue-and-groove joinery, I craft pieces that withstand changing climates worldwide. Each board is carefully selected for its grain and color, then laminated, sculpted, shaped, and finished. Traditional and modern techniques—including aliphatic pressure bonding—ensure strength, while multiple coats of mineral oil or lacquer enhance beauty and longevity.
My philosophy is simple: I make each piece as if it were my own. Whether wall art or functional design, my work combines superior construction, practical use, and artistic flair, meant to be seen, touched, and enjoyed in everyday life.
