About the Artist

My creative process involves studying and reading the rhythms and patterns of the ocean. By analyzing the rhythms and patterns of the sea I can recognize the potential for how the waves will eventually break and determine if it will be something that I will want to take an image of or not. Factoring into this is how will the light interact with the water: will it illuminate and reflect the surface of the water of the breaking wave or will the light illuminate from the backside of the wave to create transparency? For instance in the second image called Eye Contact this day I wanted a portrait-style image that gave an up close and personal feel to what I would be seeing in the water taking the image. I used a 50mm lens and positioned myself so I would be right in a spot to fill my frame with the scene of a breaking wave to put the end viewer in a perspective of being there.
