About the Artist
My intention has always been to distill the natural world to its essence, pare down the details, and allow the core to shine through. The emotive properties are then fully exposed. Working with cold wax & oil paint is very much a natural extension of my process. I can elucidate my intention by building layers which connect to a deepening of history and a way of going past the mere surface of images. The depth of the many layers gives the work a lasting and powerful meaning. By building up as many as thirty layers or as few as five I can give substance to each work of art and know that the aesthetic I perceive is there. I will often use my experience of plein air painting. My very particular way of interpreting and focusing on nature and its many manifestations form strong connections for me. The plasticity of cold wax enhances this dialogue between surface and underlying structure and gives each piece veils of color to which luminosity and subtlety occur.
