About the Artist

My artistic journey emerges from a profound connection with nature, particularly birds, whose grace and resilience mirror our own human experience. Through decades of dedication to classical Western techniques merged with the spontaneous energy of Japanese Sumi-e, I've developed a unique artistic language that honors both tradition and innovation.

Each piece begins without predetermined boundaries – no preliminary sketches constrain the process. Instead, I start with fluid wet-on-wet watercolor techniques, building up refined layers that allow each creature's distinctive personality to emerge naturally. This approach, rooted in years of anatomical study, enables me to create gestural narratives that appear effortless while remaining true to form. My sophisticated palettes and attention to revealing details bring out not just the physical essence of these magnificent beings, but their character, spirit, and the stories they carry.

My work represents more than mere wildlife portraiture; it explores the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature. This theme emerged powerfully in my earlier works featuring oversized lions and feminine figures, which expressed raw courage and self-discovery. My transition to birds opened new creative horizons, allowing me to dream more expansively while integrating Eastern influences into my practice. These winged subjects enable me to explore themes of freedom, adaptation, and the delicate balance between strength and vulnerability.

This artistic evolution culminates in works like "Spread Your Wings," featuring a Great Blue Heron in flight. This piece captures a rare, majestic moment as the bird extends its full wingspan, embodying both power and grace. Through a palette of indigo, subtle blues, and cool greys, punctuated by the precision of a golden beak and graceful talons, I sought to convey the awe we feel when encountering these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. The piece speaks to a timeless connection with nature that resonates in our modern world.

Through my art, I invite viewers into nature's uninhibited soul, creating intimate portraits that calm, uplift, and bring joy. Each piece serves as a window into the natural world's infinite wisdom, encouraging a deeper connection with the remarkable creatures who share our planet.
