About the Artist
For the past several years I've been interested in water imagery. I enjoy the subject in its own right, but I also like it as a vehicle for exploring drawing. The patterns and textures of the water surface, as well as the endless color variations of reflected light are wonderful sources for using color, line, and the calligraphy of drawing.
I work from photographs with a lot of improvisation. In the case of “Newville Farewell”, I was interested in working with the arabesques in the water reflections as well as the contrast of textures in the image. There was room as well for exploring composition and color. As in most of my work, I’m interested in capturing the literal image, and also working in the abstract at a macro level.
