About the Artist
Growing up in the UK, I was always fascinated by American Cars. The size, scale, sound and most importantly the aesthetic. I remember seeing them in person on my first trip to America as a child, they were so absolutely imposing, and made a statement! When my wife and I moved here almost 6 years ago – my obsession was reignited.
These are more than just cars – they represent history, nostalgia, craftsmanship, an industrial past….and for most people so many memories. As I began to photograph more and more models in my day-to-day life, I loved to talk to the owners and hear their stories. The stories of how they got the car, what happened to them in the car, etc. They love to share their encounters and the experiences in their life.
As I started to share these designs, I also get to hear new stories – from people that no longer have their vehicle or have since forgotten but are immediately brought back to a sense of warm nostalgia. Excitement. Elation. They immediately whip out their phone to share with me a picture they still have of their piece of automotive history.
My style is a combination of abstract & realism with a very graphic execution using hand drawn textures and clean lines. A focus on the unusual angles and details generates conversations and storytelling.
Screenprinting these vehicles is the perfect medium to capture the bold essence of these timeless classics and aligns to the same hand crafted quality the automotive manufacturing production used to be.
I hope to create a crossroad and more dialogue between the viewer of their past and present – through a reflection of classic American traditions.
