About the Artist
The majority of my work features native wood species and copper. Many of the wood and metal pieces used are leftovers retrieved from local cabinetmakers and recyclers. The principles embodied in my 3-D, wall mounted sculptures are:
- to feature the natural characteristics of wood and metals in combinations that express compelling designs and thematic concepts,
- to reveal and emphasize the beauty of the materials,
- to reuse materials that might otherwise be discarded, and
- to generate as little waste as possible.
Additional elements that may be integrated into the artwork include my own hand-painted papers, porcelain pieces from a previous body of work, leather, fibers, aluminum, paint, and acrylic stucco. All materials are shaped, cut, sanded, patinated, hammered, oiled, fired, and/or painted by hand using appropriate tools.
