About the Artist
Serenity Artistic Designs are hand-built clay wall hangings with an Asian influence. Each piece is unique and unconventional use of clay evolving from my lifelong love for collecting both functional and artistic pottery pieces. The lines and shapes found in Asian Architecture are often the inspiration for my work. I sketch and make patterns for each of my design elements. Stoneware clay from HIghwater in Asheville, NC, is rolled 3/8”-1/2”, embossed, and cut using the patterns. Many textures are created by pressing leather, wood, commercial textures, and collected items into the clay. I also use molds that I have made. After bisque firing, the elements are glazed with individual or mixed commercial glazes from Amoco, Spectrum, and Coyote. I have tested and experimented with many glazes to achieve a color pallet that is harmonious yet interesting and closely represents the colors found in nature. Lives and works in Johnson City, TN.
