About the Artist
For me, wood is as much about the feel as the look. I shape wood using grinders and sanders with the goal of creating a surface that is polished, but still retains the feel of the grain. Some of my pieces, such as my Kinetic Cairn Lamps, allow the viewer to move individual pieces, which encourages physical interaction. This is particularly rewarding for the visually impaired. I don't use a lathe for any of my work, since my forms are asymmetric. I also prefer to highlight the natural colors of hardwoods with a clear satin finish, instead of using stains or dyes.
