About the Artist
I enjoy traveling and this pairs well with my desire to paint scenes that inspire me. I travel with a small easel and paint on location when possible. I also photograph extensively for future studio paintings. I work with oil and acrylic and prefer a loose, expressive approach that at times leans towards abstraction. Working on a toned canvas or wood surface, pigment is applied in layers using palette knives, brushes, and towels. I like to start with a solid idea while allowing myself the freedom to explore the boundaries as the process takes on its own direction. I typically begin with brushes, sketching out the basic composition then use a mixture of brushes and knives to completion. I am more concerned with capturing a sense of feeling or atmosphere than creating a realistic rendition of a subject. Most importantly, I try to approach each work differently while continuously seeking new challenges. Lives and works in Petersburg, FL.
