About the Artist
My love of travel is the driving inspiration in my paintings. Most are scenes from Europe and the US where I’ve travelled over the past20 years. I work mostly in oil and prefer a loose, expressive approach. I typically work on a toned surface and apply pigment in layers, using palette knives, brushes and towels. Varying color palettes and texture are vital in my work. I like to start with a solid idea whileallowing myself the freedom to explore the boundaries as the process takes on its own direction. I work freely with ample amounts ofpaint, often mixing the colors directly on the painting surface. Finishing touches are often made by scratching paint away with apalette knife or rubber tipped tools. Most paintings are completed in one to three sessions. I prefer to work from life when possiblebut also enjoy the variety of painting from a combination of photos, sketches, memories, and dreams. My latest pieces, which include"Tuscan Expanse" and "Hills of Noto", are a mixture of impressionism, expressionism and abstraction. I am more concerned with capturing a sense of feeling or atmosphere than creating a realistic rendition of my subjects. Most importantly, I try to approach eachwork differently while continuously seeking new challenges.
