About the Artist
Molten glass has an intensity and immediacy unique unto itself. Its idiosyncrasies continue to entice, ensnare and fascinate me. In the heat of the moment, my primary tools are heat and gravity. I am seduced by the gestural properties of hot glass. The way it moves, the wiggle, the dance; is what excites me. My process resides somewhere between sport and meditation. I have developed a strong practice of working with glass in its solid form. Using diamond embedded tools, I cut, grind and polish when the glass is at room temperature, focusing on my passion for line drawing while I carve. By adding texture in this way, I can physically embrace my work in a way that is impossible otherwise. I diverge from traditional engraving in that I depart from and do not pursue Euclidian geometry or narrative forms. My goal is the texture - a texture composed of lines that appear perfectly ordered yet upon closer inspection have a specifically crafted chaos. Lives and works in Norfolk, VA.
