About the Artist
Welcome to my brain. It is full of whimsy, joy, compassion and a wee bit of perfectionism. I love animals. I spend a lot of time researching the anatomy, personality and habits of the creatures that I draw. I spend as much time as possible with live animals, both captive and free. I then spend hours sketching until I clearly understand the anatomy & my composition. I translate the sketches, by hand, into ink line drawings. Using Micron pens, I build up patterns to develop the forms and textures to make my animals come to life. I am trained as a traditional artist in oil paint. I use my fine art training & aesthetic to build a balance within the whole drawing, to feel more like a painting than an illustration or a doodle. I tend to "fill the whole canvas" and frequently put my animals in an environment. I am conservation-conscious, I use refurbished frames on all of my original drawings, and am known to reuse packing and mailing materials to ship things to my collectors. Lives and works in Gap, PA.
