About the Artist
My goal as an artist is to create beautiful, unique, and functional art. I have always been drawn to 3D art but I've always appreciated art that is also functional. I design each of my baskets with functionality in mind and I never make the same basket twice. I normally will plan out and design a few baskets at a time often based on the season and what colors I'm being inspired by. All baskets are made over several days as the reed is woven wet and the basket can change shape as it dries. I include color in all of my baskets. Sometimes I only use dyed reed, like the blue wine basket with paper flowers, which includes a wooden base and handle for extra support. That particular style of basket can also be used to hold kitchen utensils or napkins for everyday use. For the large storage basket, I included blue and ceramic handles and created interest through different sized and types of reed. At the end of 2023, I was inspired to try painting the wooden bases to have a more decorative but still functional baskets. The acrylic base baskets are some of the smaller baskets I make and can be used for everyday use as well as being hung on a wall as decoration. I design these baskets by deciding what colors will work well together for both the paint as well as dyed reed. Finally, all my baskets are sealed with a tung oil enriched stain with urethane resin.
