About the Artist
Lauren deSerres creates mixed media paintings of whimsical animals in a fantastical realistic style. Her work uses animal allegory to explore the human experience and ways in which we address the challenges of adulthood. Lauren is based in her home studio located in Pittsboro, North Carolina. She has an MFA from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a BFA from East Carolina University with a focus in sculpture. Lauren has been painting for over 20 years and has been an art educator for over 10 years, working with children in public schools, school enrichment programs, community arts centers and other art venues. She currently offers private or small group online art lessons to all ages. She creates her work using layers of painted paper, acrylic paint, graphite and ink. Her layered technique helps the viewer to look closely at the work, gradually unveiling hidden nuances and details, both in technique and in the stories behind the work.
