About the Artist
Matthew is a self taught artist who paints still lifes of every day items, celebrating the light, color and form of the details, and also celebrating the nostalgia of the subject. With the exception of a few quick studies and alla prima paintings, Matthew primarily paints in his version of traditional painting; using thin layers of oil paint to build up color with thicker, more opaque paint on the top layer. The result is a realism that emulates the source and also has a painterly quality. Matthew paints in his home studio in Frederick, MD, where he lives with his wife, son, and corgi.
