About the Artist
My jewelry combines fused glass with silver and gold, taking advantage of the beauty of both media to produce unique and striking compositions. My art is inspired by the brilliance and subtlety of color in the glass, the malleability and shine of precious metals, and by the graceful and sometimes unexpected way that these two elements combine to create beauty and meaning through jewelry. Creating beautiful objects from glass and metals involves more than creativity, however; I have learned a new kind of discipline, and patience with the painstaking process of shaping, channeling, and refining glass and metals. The work of art is almost as rewarding as the outcome as I bring out the best of each piece of glass and metal. Creativity has been the common thread in my winding journey through life, and combining fused glass with precious metals has proved to be the most exciting, engaging, and joyous expression of my creative spirit. The unique complexities of glass – the way it flows when heated and the chemical reactions between colors -- combine with silver's endless potential for shape, texture, and connections ensure that there are always innovative jewelry designs in the works. After decades working in clean energy and environmental education, I bring my values to my art, using solar panels to power my home studio and using only recycled precious metals. Lives and works in Washington, DC.
