About the Artist

My goal is to seamlessly meld the human-built environment with the natural surroundings of the world. In composing a shot, I primarily focus on trying to create a scene that will pull the viewer into the image, as if they were standing in the spot I was when creating the photograph. I want them to feel transported to that place and that time. I use the camera as a tool to achieve my end vision, and I continue to experiment using the settings, lighting, as well as an array of professional lenses and filters to achieve different results. For instance when shooting "Floating", I used a graduated neutral density filter to help control the light from top to bottom so as to not blow out the bright highlights in the fog and sky while trying to properly expose the ice. I also experimented with different lenses when deciding what to keep in the composition and ultimately went with a 200 mm lens to keep the focus on the subject in the center of the image. Many days were spent trying to figure out how to capture the iceberg in a peaceful isolated manner while waiting for the right conditions to do that in. Lives and works in Minneapolis, MN.
