About the Artist

Mick Whitcomb is a Missouri based artist who specializes in one-of-a-kind furniture and lighting made from architectural and industrial salvage. Mick travels the world sourcing unique materials for his "Artifacts" line. Fixated on the American Machine Age and the advent of electric lighting, Mick converts mechanical and scientific innovations from the 19th century into utilitarian sculptures. Mick pairs actual objects from the 1800’s with lighting technologies that are exact reproductions of Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla’s original inventions of the incandescent bulb and alternating current. Each piece tells the story of an innovative past that birthed modern American industry. These objects have been re-discovered, re-worked, and re-imagined to bring renewed function to a past generation of machines.
