About the Artist
Through persevering experimentation, I’ve discovered and refined techniques sculpting large original elegant winged forms primarily using rescued timber from fallen trees. Yet I also source with local sawmills and retail lumber dealers. With sight, feel, and beautiful music through noise quieting headphones, I patiently utilize Thai Chi-type body movement to assist delicate hand sculpting of large winged timber at 2500 rpm. It may seem counter-intuitive to turn large wing forms at such high rpm, yet with super bright lights to see "ghost imaging" I can more cleanly, smoothly, and safely sculpt undulations in winged forms without chipping, fracturing, and trailing edge tear-out. Each piece is sanded to perfection and beautifully finished. Energy, Light, Sound, Nature, Humanity: Trees are magnificent, often living beyond several human lifetimes. When a tree dies its inherent natural beauty, its life-filled timber can be an ongoing voice. I enjoy rescuing and revealing fallen trees, imagining, exploring, striving to sculpt elegant, engaging, positive expressions on the lathe; functional, inspirational, sculptural.
Choice, freedom, virtue; illimitable, and inimitable are the positive potential within each individual. Lives and works in Middlebrook, VA.
