About the Artist

My name is Muge Ersin. I am a fashion designer and a Water-Marbling enthusiast and artist. Art of marbling is an ancient technique of creating colorful patterns by sprinkling and brushing color pigments on a pan of oily water and transforming the pattern to paper. Marbling technique was invented back in the 13th century in Turkistan. Since then, it has been used by calligraphers and artists to decorate books.

After I was introduced to the magic of ‘Water Marbling’ I fell in love with the magical prints that swing on water. I decided that leaving them on paper wasn’t enough, so I engaged with the technique in a more creative way. As a fashion designer, I decided to transform the prints on the paper to fabrics and to beautiful dresses with contempary touches. The first few dresses were for us only, but then we decided it was meant for other women who love and appreciate art and fashion.

Now, with my sister- in- law, Ayse Ersin, we’re making our own prints with this ancient technique. After transfering them to papers, we print the patterns digitally to fabric. We then sew them, and make one of a kind dresses and kaftans.. For example, for one design called the 'Mimosa' design, we made it with the same marbling technique on the surface of the water, and transferred it to photoshop to play with colours and shapes , and then, we came up with a kaftan from the digitally printed fabrics...With each print we can only make few dresses.. This makes the process even more unique and magical, and we call it ‘Blooms and Marbles’…
