About the Artist
I am an intuitive painter. I allow the piece to talk to me as we travel through the process. I have paintings that develop intuitively and others that have a definite plan. When I plan a painting I often relate to a personal experience or a current event as a limited series of 3 to 4 pieces." The Roots That Bind Us", is a perfect example of a series. I was inspired during the turbulent racial temperature during The Black Lives Matter Movement. I have 2 Bi-Racial grandchildren that are the light of my life. This period intensified my fear for their future along with the future for any one not of a certain persuasion. I represented this using repeated patterns throughout the piece. They often repeated in groups of 5, Caucasian, Indigenous, Asian, Latin and Black. The root through the earth represents all that is needed in growth to understand, respect and accept. The image of" The Roots That Bind Us IV" I have used for this application is the final piece I have available in this series. This piece also embodies and extends to our Mother Earth. I find that I am able to reach out through my work to touch others lives, and hopefully to bring people to closer understanding.
I have found that my unplanned work at times evoked the same. As in, "From The Ruins".
