About the Artist

The source of my work is from within. There is a consistency in the work in that it is comprised of intertwining and layered strokes and marks but the process is spontaneous. That is where the freshness comes from. The life of the painting lies in what goes into it. It is my entire body and being that creates. The strokes and marks move. They carry energy. The overall quality is full and active yet balanced.

My mixed media works include materials such as charcoal, pastel, graphite, watercolor, ink and acrylic. The marks are applied with purpose and precision. The decision-making, or action, is based on trust and is a direct route to creation. I share what's inside or what passes through me.

The art has allowed me to go deeper in. Rather than getting lost in it, I discover through the doing. I become more aware, in tune, watchful, interested and involved. Creating shows me the way because it reveals reality. From this process I grow, and in turn, the art grows as well.

The meaning of the art is inherent in the physical aspects of the painting: the colors, strokes and movement. People may relate to it in their own way, but the work often speaks to me while painting. I hear messages, have feelings...this is all part of the growth and discovery.

My focus is to work intuitively and trust that what comes out on the canvas is meant to be and that the messages or feelings I have either while painting or while observing the painting are meant to show me something. I have understood some of the topics to have been about openness, vulnerability, feeling, connection and playfulness. And I have observed these themes in the form of pockets of light, a focus in the center, movement, expansion and color. For example, the piece titled “What’s Left Is You” has a central area that is distinct from the rest of the work. It is as if that is the core of the being or an individual. And around it, movement and energy takes place like a symphony. Certain parts are illuminated possibly indicating life, feeling and energy.
