About the Artist
My work deepened in my being during an extended sailing voyage. The serenity of the sea during offshore crossings... the sight of islands in the distance.... the dynamic nature of clouds & sea... all these visions moved me to capture the images that were ever-present in my mind’s eye. The emotions that the space evoked touched the depths of my soul. Water flows through all my paintings. Most are atmospheric seascapes with obscure horizon lines. Small boats or a whisper of land draw the viewer into a serene world with the expansive sea & sky capturing the essence of what you don’t see, the space behind the mist, clouds & shadows. The base of each piece takes one of 2 forms to create complexity that draws the viewer into my minimalist work. I either use bold palette knife work & vivid colors to build depth & texture or I use layers of darker, vibrant colors to create subliminal interest. The work is then softened with many layers of paint & brush strokes that bounce light and shadow
