About the Artist
By painting a landscape from memory, the work becomes about the feeling of a place rather than specifics and invites the viewer to a personal experience. Having lived by the water has profoundly influenced my work. I am surrounded by a landscape that changes color in an instant because of light and water reflection. I make sketches as a reference to the lay of the land but I paint from memory back at the studio. The reason for this is that when the work is about the feeling rather than the location, the viewer responds to the painting based on their own experience. I use broad strokes of oil on canvas to show the hand of the artist and the gestural capture of a moment. Lives and works in Harwich, MA.
