About the Artist
My last project was capturing the essence of the South Western United States. Months of planning and coordination went into this trip spanning from Nevada to Utah. One of my favorite experiences was the trip out to Page, Arizona to meet my Navajo guide, Jimmy. After a thirty-minute 4x4 ride through the desert, we finally arrived at a non-descript crevasse in the rock side. I spent hours within the slot canyons shooting various angles as the sun's light began dancing along the sandstone. At high noon the sun's beams were piercing directly through the cracks in the ceiling of the caves. This provided for a fresh view of the colors dancing across the sandstone walls surrounding us in the canyon. I purposely set the equipment and allowed for a long shutter and to capture the resemblance of a 'Dancing Spirit' as the sand fell in the sunlight piercing the orange and red hues of the magnificent Antelope Canyons. I often need to go to great lengths to find the perfect venue and wait hours for the right light, sometimes returning for multiple days. Sitting on a mountainside waiting for hours, walking for miles in the forest, or wandering the city streets just for the perfect shot is often how I spend my days. Other times it requires early mornings before the rising sun to catch the new light we often miss to get the perfect shot. Shooting in the digital equivalent of medium format I continually strive to capture the image at its best to further present it in all its grandeur. The quality of the image is matched with equal printing processes required of galleries and art collectors alike. Each piece chosen is part of a limited edition print with serial number and certificate of authenticity and printed on archival photo paper and available in multiple forms such as custom matted, framed or acrylic float mounts in limited editions prints. Lives and works in Leesburg, VA.
