About the Artist
I strive to create art that will brighten your home and your attitude. I love whimsical designs and bright colors. For me, polymer clay is the perfect medium for this. The magical results of bringing together color in different techniques is magical and has provided me with a way to express my love of color and design in my one of a kind pieces.
Shelley Miller's love of bright colors and whimsical designs found a perfect home in of polymer clay. The wide variety of techniques fills her need for always wanting to try something new and different in creative arts. Each technique is somewhat of an organized chaos that leads to the final product.
Shelley's love of things colorful stems from her extensive background in the arts. She received her BFA in graphic design at the University of Illinois, and then worked as a freelance graphic artist in her hometown of Chicago until moving to Virginia in the late 80s. There she started her own graphic design company "Kaleidoscope Graphics" which she ran for about 15 years. Polymer clay has been her medium for about the last 5 years.
Miller uses various techniques to combine the different colors of the clay into the patterns and designs that you see in her work. Sometimes only the clay is used to design the piece, and sometimes it is created over an existing object made of glass or ceramic. It is then cured at 275º. All of the pieces that are created over an existing object are fully functional, food safe and hand washable.
