About the Artist
My new series of clay sculptures are handbuilt and created primarily from flat slabs of clay, coils, or altered wheel-thrown forms. Abstracting the figure and focusing on simplified forms with intricate surface development, I want my sculptures to express a positive female spirit and evoke that peaceful, yet powerful energy. As with Corrine, she was constructed using the coil, slab, and pinch building methods, and the exaggeration of her hips expresses the beauty of the voluptuous female, maybe representing her fertility or being a vessel of love and the caring energy of a mother. My goal is to create works that convey a mood, connecting you to its mystery that is interpreted differently by each viewer. Each piece is incised with abstract drawings, bisque fired, brush glazed, and kiln fired again. I am the sole creator of all my sculptures.
