About the Artist
As a woodturner, my works are created by means of a wood lathe. The lathe simply spins the wood and the rest is up to me. The focus of the art that I produce is on utilitarian items as well as purely artistic pieces. I appreciate knowing that someone will use or purely enjoy one of my works in their everyday lives, and in their homes. Special care is taken in selecting the trees that I use for my art. All of the wood I use comes from standing dead trees, storm-damaged trees, lumber mill yards, and occasionally from a tree being taken down by a homeowner or municipality. I offer woods that have character to them. You will notice that I do not shy away from wood that has voids or cracks, because to me they just add to the personality of each piece.
I find a certain calmness about woodturning. The act of creating art from a piece of a tree is very fascinating. The somewhat “instant gratification” that comes from woodturning is fun to see take place. And though my artwork is not completed quickly I can envision what my final result will be in a fairly short amount of time. Lives and works in Front Royal, VA.
